President's Message
2008-11-05

My name is Mike Grigg, AARE and I am extremely excited to represent the CSAA as your next president.  I have been in the auction business for 7 years conducting real estate auctions throughout the state of California as the Chief Auctioneer for Bakersfield-based, Elite Auctions.  There are a lot of great events to come in 2009 and I hope I get to meet you all throughout the next year!

The 2008 convention, which was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Berkeley, was spectacular! The convention began on Thursday, October 24th where auctioneers were treated to a tour of Harvey Clar’s auction facility followed by a nice meet and greet where auctioneers were able to share their stories from the past year.  Friday, October 24th was a day about real estate auctions as Todd Good of Accelerated Marketing Group moderated a panel of experts including Martin Higgenbotham, CAI president and CEO of Higgenbotham Auctioneers International, Ltd., Inc., Sheldon Good founder of Sheldon Good & Co., Dennis Kruse, CAI president of Kruse International, and Jim Mullin, EVP and National Director of Staubach Auto Group.  The attendees were treated to an all-day panel discussion covering anything and everything about real estate auctions and their prevalence in today’s fast-changing market.   Saturday, October 25th included a roundtable discussion before lunch, which covered auto auctions, general merchandise auctions, antique auctions, storage auctions, benefit auctions, asset auctions, and amusement auctions.  The panel included Redge Martin, Ron Fausset, Joe Ward, David Huisman, Rob Storment, and Amy Martin.  After lunch marketing awards and the general meeting, where a new board was elected, rounded off the convention.

I am excited to announce that the CSAA will be bringing back a spring seminar with a bang in 2009!  We will be holding a cruise to Mexico and we hope that everyone can attend.  Mark your calendars for Legislative Day in Sacramento, which is slated to take place on April 28th.  Our next annual convention will be held in beautiful South Lake Tahoe on October 22-24, so mark that off on your calendars as well.  Lake Tahoe is a great place to bring your families!

I learn so much when I attend these seminars and could not put a dollar amount on how much I have gained by attending these events.  I highly recommend that you come to as many seminars as you can!  Also, remember to utilize our association’s website (www.caauctioneers.org) for posting your auctions and staying updated on current and future events.

I look forward to leading you and the association through a successful 2009!

Mike Grigg, AARE

President of CSAA
