Legislative Day 2007-04-23
The purpose of Legislative day is to maintain a presence among our state representatives and to stay on top of legislation that may affect auctioneers. Attached a letter written by CSAA President Denise Rinaldi, CAI that accompanied a document with the list of states and their licensing laws, the most recent Auction Industry survey flyer, and the NAA Uniform Auction and Auctioneers Licensing Act (UAALA) booklet which was left with each person the CSAA met with on that day.
Going forward, CSAA President, Denise Rinaldi, CAI will revise the attached letter to remove “thank you for taking time to meet with us today” and Executive Services will send additional packets to the house members that were suggested to us during the appointments, ie. Sen. Ridley Thomas, members of the Business and Professions committee along with the Senate and House chairs. The packets will also include the Board of Directors roster and the most recent Chanticleer. To follow-up, CSAA President Denise Rinaldi, CAI will draft a “Thank You” letter to people we were able to visit with us on Tuesday. AB 1949 has been reintroduced. We will be keeping a watchful eye on its progression even though we were assured that we would not be included within the bill. If you are interested in our legislative endeavors, have suggestions and/or contacts that you can provide, please feel free to contact Nicole Woodard, CSAA Executive Services Coordinator at 888.541.8084 ext. 27 or nwoodard@auctioneers.org. |
Sacramento, CA -- On Tuesday, April 17, five (5) board members, one (1) board member business associate and one (1) Executive Services Coordinator visited the state capital building in Sacramento California for very productive and successful Legislative Day. The CSAA had several appointments with key members of the senate and assembly and also dropped in on Sen. Bill Maze, author of last years AB 1947. Please see below for a full report and attached for photos of that day.
The group of seven (7) met with representatives / staff members or the state official from the offices of House Minority Leader, Michael Villines, Senator Tom Harman, Speaker of the House Fabian Nunez, Minority Whip Dennis Hollingsworth, Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore, Sally Lieber, and Senate President Pro-tempore, Don Perata. Out of the six (6) appointments, five (5) were receptive, interested and ready to assist the CSAA. The receptive members of the house offered suggestions on the next steps to take, who needed to be contacted and what other topics of discussion should be addressed. All of the appointments were very well presented and it was obvious from the outcomes that the CSAA left their impression on the members of the house and senate that they were able to speak with that day. The group was unable to get appointments with four (4) other members of the house that were on the list of appointments to be set; however, they were able to drop off packets directly to their offices in person.
